The middle school is very exciting and pivotal time in learning of math. This intermediate stage introduces new challenges due to the transition in content and delivery method. It is imperative for the students to understand new concepts, and develop the connections of these skills with real life. The competency in these new skills will motivate the young learners for lifelong learning. Thorough understanding of new skills at this stage will build the strong conceptual foundation for high school.
We have devised a program for middle school students (from Grades 5 to 8) to develop a strong foundation of 21ST century competency skills. The motive of this program is to make “math easy” for these young learners. In this program, we develop an individualized learning plan based on the initial assessment of the student. Broadly speaking, this program focuses on supporting the transition of these young learners through blend of teaching and independent practising. We create an engaging student-centered learning environment where student can ask the questions freely and get there doubts resolved. We develop the lesson plan to deliver the content effectively, and then provide them with an opportunity to master these skills through ample of questions for practicing the skills. In our lessons, we teach students different methods or techniques to solve the same problem. Once the student have mastered the skill then we present a variety of challenging problems from real world scenario related with the skill.
This program can support middle school in many ways such as; makes transition smooth, foster an interest in math, motivate lifelong learning, learn new skills and understanding the application of these concepts in solving real life problems.
